How to Peel a Potatoe with a paring-knife! The method great-granny used.?

Using a paring-knife, cutting towards the body. (I know you are supposed to 'cut' away from the body, for safety sake, but the method back then was to peel towards the body). Please tell me how it is done & done efficiently.

Holding the knife in the hand--gripping with the last three fingers--peel toward the thumb and control with the first finger. (Yes, may be the wrong way but it is how granny did it and also how I do it)
