Help my boss's internet site is failing and that means i'll lose my job! Is there any free resources to help?
I just got news that I may lose my job because he will shut down the site due to lack of visitors? We have spoken with SEO companies and just cannot afford it. I just need some free suggestions on what I can do to generate traffic. We are a knife retail store with a website that I maintain from home. Thank you in advance for any suggestions.
How does your website rate with organic search engine listings in Yahoo and Google and MSN? For example, do a search based on keywords related to retail knives and see where your website comes up. If you're not on the first few pages, you need to do a lot of work.
If you have a small budget, you can check into Yahoo's Overture PPC program and Google's Adword's PPC program. I have clients that spend less then $10.00 a day and do very good. You can set daily spending limits and also target your ads to specific times of the day and demographics.
You might want to consider joining one of Yahoo's SEO Groups. I belong to a few of them and they do help. Just go to the Groups and do a search for SEO or Website Marketing. Once you join, ask away as you might get some very good pointers back. You can also list your website URL to have others take a look at your site and comment.
Take advantage of any other website that might have a message forum where you can add a custom signature to your posts. Be helpful and comment on other's questions. Message forum posts often get picked up quickly with the major search engines. So do blog posts.
Join any of the social networking sites that allow you to post your URL. It would be cool if you could make a YouTube video and talk about knives. Perhaps create a short tutorial on knives and what knives make for a good holiday gift.
